Arranged 2009 for Concert Band
We Five Kings was premiered on December 17, 2009 by the Fillmore Central High School Concert Band.
I first got the idea for We Five Kings while driving down the interstate when I was in high school. Why I remember that, I have no idea, but I had my dad write the idea for We Three Kings in 5/4 time on one of his business cards. As I was cleaning out my desk several years later, I found the business card and decided to make it a reality, with inspiration from the great Dave Brubeck.
The greatest challenge for my ensemble was to match the jazzy feel of the piece. Once the saxophone section got it down, the rest of the group fed off of their groove and it clicked quickly.
